NEW YEAR 2011 WISHES

Dear Ladies,

WELCOME BACK!!!

The Board and I would like to welcome you back and hope you and your families had a restful and enjoyable holiday.

First, I would like to extend my gratitude to Mrs. Juliana Nwanze for her continued patronage and support to The Group. This was most recently appreciated in her contribution to the African Group Cuisine table at the UNWG Bazaar last November and the finger food mini sale held at IFAD.

Recognition is given to those of you who sold and bought tickets, volunteered food dishes, contributed handicrafts or funds to purchase handicrafts and to those who participated in other ways especially on the day. Cuisine from all our Regions was well represented and feedback from visitors was very complementary.

Ladies, let us remember that being a member of the Group means committing to meeting our objectives of (1) encouraging and promoting friendships among different nationalities and cultural backgrounds. (2) as privileged women, developing new ideas and opportunities for raising funds to benefit the disadvantaged women and children of the African continent.

This asks for commitment and sacrifice of oneself, one’s time and energy. I therefore ask you for your patience, understanding and support in keeping this Group moving forward with our goals.

May I also take this opportunity to encourage you all to renew your membership at our next meeting. Please remember that the fees enable us to cater to our members here in Rome, on the occasions of a celebration, a birth, hospitalisation, death, etc. recent examples being visits to see new babies born to Poldina Callens and Naomi Kalii, hospitalisation of Almaz Kidane and marriage of Salamatou Soumaila’s daughter.

Finally, I wish you all good HEALTH and HAPPINESS in this coming year. Most especially, I thank you all for your trust and the responsibility you have given to me to guide the African Group.

Faty HAIDARA
PRESIDENT

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT-ELECT
OCTOBER 2010

Dear Sisters,

I wish to thank you for your trust in electing me as President of UNWG African Group at the Annual General Meeting held on Thursday 4 November 2010.

First, I wish to recognize the outgoing President, Habi Bamba for her work in holding the torch during her Presidency, in which three fundraising events were held successfully under her leadership with the support of her Board. I particularly want to thank our Honorary President Juliana NWANZE, for her hospitality and constant support to the Group.

As the saying goes, “it takes two to tango”. I am therefore counting on each one of you to help me deliver the goods by checking on the performance of the President and the Board as a whole.

In order to have a successful African Group, we need to revisit our goals at our next meeting, that is, what we want and expect our Group to do:-

promote friendships, exchange cultural experiences and solidarity among women of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds and
raise funds with our modest means for the benefit of the disadvantaged women and children of the African continent.

In order to be able to coordinate this cause, we need urgently to fill-in the following vacant Board positions so that we can proceed to plan our activities for the coming year. Please find it in your hearts to volunteer for a position so that the Board can be complete.

Board Members 2010-2011

  • PRESIDENT - Faty Haidara
  • VICE PRESIDENT - Vacant
  • SECRETARY (FRENCH) – Samira
  • SECRETARY (ENGLISH) – Vacant
  • TREASURER - Bernadette Kafeero
  • TREASURER ASSISTANT - Vacant
  • LEGAL ADVISER - Zeinab Barahow Gregorio
  • SOCIAL AND PROTOCOL AFFAIRS – Vacant
  • HANDICRAFTS AND EXHIBITIONS - Vacant

Let’s remember that being a member of the Board or a member of the Group asks for a lot of commitment and sacrifice of oneself, one’s time and energy. I would therefore like to ask you for your patience and understanding in keeping this Group moving forward.

Again, I thank you all for your trust and I will spare no effort to fulfil the responsibility you have democratically put on my shoulders. I will try my best to fulfil the role assigned to the Presidency with your help. I am counting on each of you, individually and collectively, to help me carry-out my challenging new responsibilities. There is a lot to be done yet.

My thanks to your kind attention. I wish you and your families, good health.

Faty Haidara
President
