The African Group of the United Nation’s Women’s Guild of Rome (UNWG-Rome) here-in referred to as “The Group”, is a non–profit making association based in Rome whose objective is to promote making friendships, among women of the 54 different African nationalities and varied cultural backgrounds Membership is open to African or African related women connected through work or family relationships with the United Nations Specialised Agencies (FAO, WFP, IFAD) and the Permanent Missions based in Rome. (See Membership requirements) The Group has also the aspiration to play a leading role in advocacy for the rich cultural heritage of Africa, something of which the membership is particularly proud. For example, The Group organises social events open to non-members, such as lunches or dinner parties based on African traditional cuisine, arts and crafts exhibits, and presentations of the works of African artists and writers. The Group now has a monthly Newsletter and those members who may miss a gathering or event are kept updated by this monthly Newsletter which features the month’s activities and future events.
